Mountain ViewMountain View School Campground & Sanctuary has been many things since its construction. It was once a school for children – elementary to high school, later a sanctuary for several wild animals, then abandoned and left to defend itself against Mother Nature, looters and occasional travelers for many years. Many championship basketball games have been played in the gym and most local people have a story to tell about the history of Mountain View School, and now new life is born as Mountain View School Campground & Sanctuary is re-opened to serve the public.
Mountain ViewSome TLC was all the property needed and now boasts a beautiful facility for children, families and groups to come and enjoy nature and the peace that “getting away from it all” brings to the soul. There is a special energy here and we want all to come and experience it.
“I went to the woods because I wished to live deliberately, to front only the essential facts of life and see if I could not learn what it had to teach, and not, when I came to die, discover that I had not lived.” ~ Henry David Thoreau
The greatest part of the property is its neighbor: the Nantahala National Forest. Yes, the property is surrounded on three sides by national forest with no fences or gate hours! Enjoy it.
